Coyote Lyrics

American Dream - by Craig Rayburn

I fell asleep
In the land of the neon sky
Awoke to the sound
Of the planets spinning by

Chorus-
Called away from me now…. by the American Dream
It’s an old hand me down…. from the powers that be
I should have known by now….where I could lay my head
I would have figured it out,
If I could follow my own heart instead

I was lost in the canyon
All through the heat of the day
Then up on the mountain
The moonlight to show me the way

Chorus-
Called away from me now…. by the American Dream
It’s an old hand me down…. from the powers that be
I should have known by now…where I could lay my head
I would have figured it out,
If I could follow my own heart instead.

Cold in the Canyon - by Craig Rayburn

Traffic’s bad enough to drive you crazy
The wind and rain get down in your bones
I went down to do a little shopping
Saw the crowds, turned around, I went back home

I guess some folks stand to make a lot of money
Most of us are only getting by
Everybody’s acting so damn happy
The kids all have a glazed look in their eyes

Chorus-
And it’s getting cold up in the canyon
It’s a long, long way into town
If you want to do anything
So put a couple pieces of wood on the fire
And open up another bottle of wine
We’ll see if we can make it through
Another Christmas time

Grandma, she won’t talk to Sister Betty
My wife always fights with Uncle Lou
Nobody seems to care much for Cousin Billy
After all of those things he’s been through

Chorus

Oh, silent night (silent night)
You can hear the hopeful whispers
In the fire’s dying light
Oh, peaceful night (peaceful night)
I look up at a million stars
And everyone of them’s
Burning (bright)

Chorus

Cowboy - by Craig Rayburn

Well, the four winds blow him
And nobody knows him
They don’t know where he’s going
Don’t know his name

But the cold stairs don’t matter
He rides high in his saddle
His eyes on tomorrow
And his home’s on the range

Chorus-
And he’s a cowboy too
Living and fighting
The same dreams and same lies
Oh, cowboy too
Get on your pony and ride,
Ride, ride, yeah
Get on your pony and ride,
Yeah

When the dark clouds start thundering
And he’s cold and he’s hungry
Then he can’t keep from wondering
At the strange life he’s led
Then he just starts riding
Leaves his whole world behind him
Laughing and sighing
With the songs in his head

Well, I’m a cowboy too
Living and fighting
The same dreams and same lies
Cowboy too
Get on my pony and I just ride,
Ride, ride, yeah
Well, I’m a cowboy too
Get on my pony and ride,
Yeah, yeah, umm.

Coyote - by Craig Rayburn

Coyote can’t find his name
Sings to the night with his pain
Call him he’ll stay ‘til the dawn
Then like the shadows he’s gone

Now all the passion’s run dry
Leaving it’s coldness inside
She said that heros shouldn’t cry
He wanted love that wouldn’t die

Coyote still feels the same
Runs where the sky meets the plains
Touch him you free him from sin
Turn around, he’s gone in the wind

Touch him you free him from sin
Turn around, he’s gone in the wind

Good for Nothin - by Craig Rayburn

Turned on the t.v. and I’m watching real close
There’s a man who says he knows the holy ghost
He says, “Do what I tell you to do like the Good Book says.”
According to him, I’ll be better off when I’m dead

Chorus-
“Take a look around at the good I’ve done” (4x)
And I’m thinking, please, wait a minute
I’m sitting up in my seat, clapping my hands
Thinking “I Believe…
Good for Nothin’.”

Mister Politician, I’m trying to figure out
Just who you are, never lied, never smoked, never drove no foreign car
He says, “Do what I tell you to do, it’ll be alright.
Give me the power to enforce it in your bed at night.”

Chorus-
“Take a look ahead at the good I’ll do, take a look ahead at the good I’ll do
What’s good for me is good for you, take a look ahead at the good I’ll do.”
And I’m thinking, please, wait a minute, I’m getting up on my feet,
clapping my hands, singing, “I believe…
Good for nothin’, Good for nothin’.”

Now we’re killing for Jesus and we’re fighting for peace
And we’re throwing people in jail for a common dis-ease.
We say, “Do what I tell you to do, it’ll be ok,
don’t worry your pretty head, trying to find a better way.”

Chorus-
Take a look around at the good we’ve done (4x)
And I’m thinking, please, wait a minute
I’m stomping my feet, shaking my fist
Yelling, “I believe…Good for nothin’, good for nothin’
What’s good for you, isn’t necessarily good for me
Good for nothin’, good for nothin’.”

Gypsy - by Craig Rayburn

Cold dark morning, I linger inside
Outside my window, the gypsies roll by
And I feel it, oh my, my
A minute’s too long,
An hour’s gone by

Chorus-It keeps me alive
You know it does baby
And I wouldn’t mind
If I could say
But all of my lines
Get blown away

I put on my sneakers
And an old pair of pants
I grab my knapsack
I take one backward glance
The neighbors might notice
Yeah, they might look askance
Well, I could sit here forever
Or I could jump up and dance

Chorus-It keeps me alive
You know it does baby
But I’ve been so blind
How could I stay
When all of my lines
Get blown away

Wind is blowing and the rain is falling
Cold against my skin
No way of knowing where I’m going
It don’t matter where I’ve been
The road keeps rolling on and on
Hard to say how long I’ll be gone

I finish my coffee
Put on my jacket and slacks
Grab a sandwich and an apple, put them in a brown paper sack
I’ve got things to do and ways to be
I’ve got to take in the slack, but I can’t keep from hoping
The gypsies come back….

Lady in Love - by Craig Rayburn

Oh, lady in love
Heaven’s above
I can’t get enough
Oh, lady in love

Twinkle in her eye
Umm makes me want to die
My, my, my
Oh, the twinkle in her eye

All night long
Nothing to give you but loving
All night long
I’ll lay it on. (2x)

Oh, lady in love
Heaven’s above
I can’t get enough
Oh, lady in love

All night long
Nothing to give you but loving
All night long
I’ll lay it on. (2x)

Mexican Moonlight - by Craig Rayburn

I took a taxi on south to the border
Down Rio Grande to the Mexican line
On the lam from the law and order
Wondering what in the world I might find there

Chorus-
In the Mexican moonlight
The senoritas dance all night
In the Mexican moonlight

I went down to the local cantina
I lost my wallet, I spent my last dime
On a bottle of that loco tequila
Spent the next morning in search of my mind there

Chorus-
In the Mexican moonlight
The crazy gringo drinks all night
In the Mexican moonlight

In the Mexican moonlight
The senoritas dance all night
In the Mexican moonlight
In the Mexican moonlight
En la luz de la luna

Probably - by Craig Rayburn

When you find some kind of spider hiding in the bathroom
And you don’t want to kill it but you can’t get it outside
I’ll bet you miss me then
When you’re making Sunday brunch and you can’t get the top off
That big ol’ jar of sun-dried tomatoes
I’ll bet you miss me then

Chorus-
I’ll bet you’re going to miss me then
I’ll bet you’re really going to miss me then
I’ll bet you’re going to miss me then
Probably

When you’re out working in the garden and you’ve got to move something
That’s just too damn heavy to move it your own self
I’ll bet you miss me then
When you really feel like ice-cream but you ain’t wearing nothing
And it’s cold outside, hell, maybe even raining
I’ll bet you miss me then, I’ll bet you miss me then

Chorus

When your car won’t start, when those dogs are barking
When you’re lying there in the dark, when your love light is sparking
Love light is sparking, sputtering and sparking
Sparking in the darkness, I’ll bet you’re going to miss me then

When you need someone to talk to, when you need someone to hold you
Someone who’ll really listen, someone who really knows you
When that lonely moon comes shining in your window
You’re going to need somebody, somebody who can love you
Like I did
I’ll bet you’re going to miss…

Chorus

Someone to Love - by Craig Rayburn

Out in the shadows
On the edge of town
I met a lady
And she took me down

Chorus-
She said, All I ever wanted…all that I need
Is someone to love…please, please
I‘m down on my bended knees
Come on, take me away.

In that motel room
Where she made her home
She cried and she held me
While that cold sun shone

Chorus

In the morning, I left her
I was so young and free
But sometimes, sometimes, I remember
All that she said to me

Chorus-
And you know, all I really wanted…all that I need
Is someone to love…please, please
I’m down on my bended knees
Come on, someone to love
Someone to love, that’s all that I need
And someone to love me.

Stainless Steel - by Craig Rayburn

You ask me why I’m leaving town
I’m asking you why should I hang around
You’re saying that your love is real
I’m saying that your heart is stainless steel, stainless steel

I see his arms around you
I see his love surround you
How long can this romance last
Until your love again has passed.

The pain inside you’ll never know, oh
And darling there’s still part of me that don’t want to go
Now I’m crying inside to the rhythm of the iron wheels
And leaving your town on tracks of stainless steel, stainless steel

Well, I was young and I thought I knew
You’d be easy never cruel
But blind with love I could not see
Now stainless steel has set me free

You ask me why I’m leaving town
I’m asking you why should I hang around
You’re saying that your love is real
Well, I’m saying that your heart is stainless steel, stainless steel

Time Waits - by Craig Rayburn

All the leaves are falling down
I can’t believe it’s already winter time again
Oh my love she used to come around
I can’t believe how long it’s been

Chorus-
Another year, come and gone
All my trials and changes
Right or wrong
Oh my darling, don’t you wait too long
Time waits for no one.

All those things I was going to do
Bits and pieces of my projects on the ground
Oh my love, I know I promised you
I guess I figured that you’d always be around

Chorus

And now the wind is blowing with a heavy rain
I’m feeling the same way I did that day
That you went away
Looking to find your own road
Make it your way
I’m sitting here staring out of my window tonight
Wishing I could look in your eyes
I wish I could apologize

Chorus-
Another year, dead and gone
All my trials and changes
Right or wrong
Oh my darling don’t you wait too long
Time waits for no one
Never abates for no one
Time waits for no one

Tres Pinos - by John Siletto

Central California
There’s a town they call Tres Pinos
Five miles south of Hollister
Five north from Paicines
If you ain’t from there, we’ll know ya
‘cuz we’ll hear you say Tres Piños
But we all know it’s Pinos, Pinos, Pinos

Got a gal Delila
She’s high society
Raised with education
She speaks so properly
She calls our town Tres Piños
I call it Tres Pinos
Now this damn word Pinos comes between us

Chorus-
Tres Piños or Tres Pinos
How can such a small thing come between us?
Tres Piños or Tres Pinos
Guess we better move down to Salinas

Five hundred people live here
They do all kinds of things
Joe’s a plumber, Bob’s a blacksmith, Gary raises pigs.
There’s country all around us, cain’t nothing come between us
Don’t tell us how to say it,
It’s Tres Pinos.

Chorus-
Tres Piños or Tres Pinos
How can such a small thing come between us?
Tres Piños or Tres Pinos
Guess we better move up to Bolinas.

The whole damn thing has got so bad,
I’m losing my sanity.
It’s just the name of our small town, it’s not profanity.
So please don’t mispronounce it, if you ever come to see us.
‘cause we all love to hear you say, PINOS!
